The embers – children’s book
Project started with serie of posters illustrating Camfire Agency values – Experimental, Meaningful, Collaborative and Evolutionary. The team decided that posters hanging in their office aren’t enough and they decided to push this project further and create childrens book. All of the poster illustrations were recomposed and overpainted to fit the book size and several new illustrations were made.
“At Campfire we have 4x values that guide and define us. ⠀
– Human – we are driven by emotion, creating and telling stories that make people feel something. We care about the experience of working both with and for Campfire.
– Collaborative – we are greater than the sum of our individual parts and believe in working together with the most talented and infectiously positive people in the world.
– Experimental – we maintain a dedication to self-initiated projects that drive us and our innovation.
– Meaningful – we work with clear intention, and our creative decisions are driven by purpose.⠀
We wanted to create something that would help us to share our values with the wider world. We sat together to visualise each concept with the team, and started working with illustrator extraordinaire Jakub Cichecki to bring them to life as a series of posters.
Printing and displaying our values on the brick walls in the office didn’t feel emblematic of the values themselves – we wanted to do something that truly embodied our philosophy.
So we made a children’s book.
Writing a children’s book challenged us to keep it simple. To share our philosophy in as clear and engaging a way as possible. It was important to us that the book would stand alone as a beautiful and timeless story, to be treasured by younger generations of creators.
We tell the tale of The Embers, on a quest to learn the answer to the question, ‘why do we make?’.
Inspired by Carl Sagan’s Pale Blue Dot, we underscore the value of remaining forever inquisitive, the advantages to veering from the path, and our responsibility to deal kindly with each other.⠀
